Dolomites Days Tre e Quattro

Link to Dolomiti day due

For our third day in La Val the two of us were assigned a guide named Maria to show us around.  When an older woman showed up, I was wondering if we weren't tough enough for our last guide, Mathias.  Oh well, she knew the area and we didn't.

So we hopped on our E mountain bikes and took a long ride around the area.  Maria didn't speak much English, we don't speak much Italian, but we figured it out.

Not much text here - just mainly pictures of this fabulous area.
This view from the room doesn't get old

Selfie with Maria
That evening I remembered reading something about this Maria on the Hotel Pider website, so I looked her up.  Turns our our Maria, is Maria Canins, who happens to be a legend in these parts.  Look her up.

This hotel serves some amazing food when you sign up for half board.  We had a great meal again that night, finished off with our first tiramisu for the trip.

The next morning was a bit cloudy and the forecast called for afternoon showers.  Maria was again waiting for us at 9:30 and rather than head up, we started down into the valley.  The plan for the day was to visit some of the villages in Alta Badia (La Valle, Badia, Corvara and San Cassiano).

We took a caffe break in Corvara to wait out the rain showers before heading to San Cassiano.  On our way to San Cassiano the skies really opened up so we turned back to Badia.
Spring rain

A bit wet
We found some shelter and waited for 20 minutes or so for the rain to let.  When it appeared that it wasn't going to stop, we geared up and went for it.  Maria pulled all kinds of GoreTex stuff out of her little pack, Tamara had her raincoat in her pack, and I had a cheap old poncho.

We let it rip down the highway from Badia to Pedoeroa.  Once in Pederoa, it would have been a 2km grind up a steep road to the hotel, but we had E bikes, so we just put them in turbo mode and cruised up the hill smiling.

We got back to the hotel completely soaked, freezing ass cold, and laughing.  I think Maria even enjoyed it.

Stats for the two days:
Distance: 46 miles
