Kepros Mountain - April 23rd

Since we are still trying to get into climbing shape for next weekend, we decided to squeeze in a quick climb of another local mountain for Saturday afternoon.  Kepros Mountain was the goal and it is just south of Spring Shores on Lucky Peak Reservoir. The normal, more popular, route starts to the south at Three Point Mountain and is a five mile walk to the peak.  We chose to take the quicker steeper route by taking the boat across the reservoir.  Once again, due to other obligations, we got a late start.  But we did pick up another hiker, Dylan's buddy Max.

Leaving the boat

We left the boat at a little after 4PM in fantastic weather - sunshine, mid 50's with just a slight breeze.

The false summit

It didn't take long to work up a sweat as Dylan set a brisk pace for Max, Shadow, and I.  It was a pretty straightforward hike, just up and up and up.  Along the way we stopped to enjoy the views and let the sweat dry.

Though there wasn't as much wildlife as last weekend, we did manage to see a couple dozen deer and 6 or so pairs of chukar.

After a couple of hours we reached the summit.  There was a new summit register that had been placed earlier that day.  Too bad we didn't get to enjoy the views with the earlier hiker.  Did I say how it was a gorgeous afternoon to be on top?  We wolfed down some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and snapped a few more photos before heading down.

Next time we will make sure we are not looking into the sun!

It took us a little over a hour to get back to the boat from the summit, for a total time of 3.5 hours to complete the 5.75 mile hike with 2600 feet gain.

Another area I used to late archery hunt and still do some chukar hunting. Good to see the two of you enjoying the outdoors. Riley is glad I'm finished with my Idaho turkey hunting so we can start taking a few a those jaunts together.
